Dedicated to the memory of Nick Cousins

Nick sadly passed away on 26th November 2017 after a long and brave battle against cancer.

On New Years Day 2012, Nick was rushed into hospital where they found he had a tumor in his bowel. Following the surgery to remove this, it was confirmed that the tumor was cancerous and Nick would need to start chemotherapy. Unfortunately, during the course of chemo they discovered Nick also had skin cancer. After a year of remission, the cancer came back and Nick had to start regular courses of chemotherapy to control the cancer.

In May 2017, Nick was admitted to hospital where he stayed for the next 6 months on Prescott Ward. Following the terminal diagnosis in July, it was arranged for Nick to stay at Sue Ryder where he stayed for 3 weeks before being mobile enough to come home.

Being at home meant a lot to Nick and it is thanks to the Sue Ryder Hospice at Home team that this was made possible. Along with providing care and advice they were also great company for Nick and support for Sally. The Hospice at Home team were considered like family and treated Nick like their own. Nick's stay at home during his final weeks would not have been possible without the Hospice at Home team and we are eternally grateful to them for this.

The Sue Ryder Hospice at Home team is charity funded and it's these donations that keep this service available for others in similar situations.
